BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A strong second round catapulted the Akron Zips men's golf team into a tie for third place through two rounds at the NYX Hoosier Invitational on Saturday.
The Zips' score of 1-under 283 during Saturday's afternoon round tied for the tournament low as Akron closed the day with a two-round score of 14-over 582. The Zips are tied with Youngstown State. Michigan enters tomorrow's final round with the 36-hole lead (567, -1).
All five Zips closed play inside the top-35, led by the play of Charlie Bull, Louis Birchall and Ryan Harris. Those three players sit inside the top-25 entering Sunday's third round.
Bull and Birchall are tied for 18th place with two-round tallies of 3-over 145. Bull posted rounds of 4-over 75 and 1-under 70 while Birchall carded consistent scores of 1-over 72 and 2-over 73.
Harris shook off a tough first-round 77 (+6) to fire a 2-under 69 to end the day tied for 23rd place (146, +4).
J.B. Williams and Zach Gollwitzer are tied for 35th place with identical scores of 6-over 148. Williams carded rounds of 75 (+4) and 73 (+2) on the day. Gollwitzer, like Harris, rebounded in round two to post an even-par 71 following a first-round 77 (+6).
