GREENVILLE, S.C. – Powered by the fourth-best round of the day, the Akron Zips jumped seven spots into fifth place on Saturday during day two of the Furman Intercollegiate.
The Zips posted a 3-under 285 to climb from 12th place on Friday into fifth place with a two-day score of 579 (+3). No. 10 Virginia Tech and No. 52 Georgia State are tied atop of the leaderboard at 8-under 568. UA sits one shot behind fourth-place USC Upstate and six shots ahead of sixth place Elon and Charleston Southern.
Three players posted rounds under par on the day to finish inside the top-20, including Charlie Bull, J.B. Williams and Louis Birchall.
Bull led the way for the second-consecutive round, firing a 2-under 70 to remain in a tie for eight place with a score of 3-under 141.
Williams matched Bull's round of 70 to jump 15 spots into a tie for 13th place with a 36-hole tally of 143 (-1). Birchall is one shot behind Williams with a score of even-par 144 after carding a second-round 71 (-1) and is tied for 16th place.
Ryan Harris improved two shots from Friday with his round of 3-over 75 and sits in a tie for 72nd place (152, +8). Zach Gollwitzer had the biggest scoring improvement for the Zips, bettering his 79 from round one by five strokes with a 2-over 74 on Saturday. Gollwitzer is in a tie for 81st place (153, +9).
Sunday's third and final round will begin at 8 a.m. ET, with teams teeing off from the first and 10th tees. The Zips will be in the first five groups off the 10th tee. Fans can follow all of the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
