GREENVILLE, S.C. – Charlie Bull's round of 1-under 71 led the way for the Zips as the Akron men's golf team closed the first round of the Furman Intercollegiate in 12th place on Friday.
Bull is tied for eighth place after 18 holes and is five shots off the lead as 14 players broke par on the day.
As a team, the Zips posted a round of 6-over 294. No. 10 Virginia Tech holds a two-shot lead over the field after carding a round of 3-under 285. Just 11 shots separate first and 15th place after day one.
J.B. Williams and Louis Birchall got off to good starts, posting rounds of 1-over 73 to close play in a tie for 28th place.
Ryan Harris sits in a tie for 83rd place with a score of 5-over 77 while Zach Gollwitzer rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 96th place following his round of 79 (+7).
Saturday's second round will begin at 8 a.m. ET, with teams teeing off from the first and 10th tees. Fans can follow all of the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
