AWENDAW, S.C. – Using strong rounds by Ryan Harris and Charlie Bull, the Akron Zips men's golf team closed day the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate tied for 13th place on Tuesday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club.
The Zips posted a round of 1-under 287 to finish with a 54-hole score of 899 (+35). No. 30 Auburn carded the second-best round of the day to win the event by three strokes with a score of 12-under 852.
Harris and Bull posted rounds under par on the day to help the Zips post their best team round of the spring. Harris carded a 4-under 68 to move into a tie for 23rd place with a three-day total of 218 (+2).
Bull would finish tied for 40th place thanks to his round of 2-under 70. He finished the week with a total score of 224 (+8).
Zach Gollwitzer posted his best round of the week on Tuesday, carding a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 62nd place with a tournament score of 229 (+13).
J.B. Williams closed play with a three-round score of 231 (+15) to finish in a tie for 67th place. He carded a final-round 77 (+5).
Louis Birchall rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 72nd place (235, +19) after finishing the day with a solid round of 4-over 76.
The Zips will not have much of a break as they will head to Greenville, S.C., to take part in the Furman Intercollegiate starting Friday, March 28.
