AIKEN, S.C. – The Akron Zips men's golf team closed day one of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in 13th place on Monday at the par-70, 6,695-yard Palmetto Golf Club.
The Zips posted rounds of 16-over 296 and 20-over 300 to end the day with a 36-hole tally of 596 (+36). No. 31 Clemson leads the field by six strokes with a day one score of 571 (+11).
Ryan Harris and J.B. Williams are tied for 27th place with identical scores of 7-over 147. Harris carded rounds of 2-over 72 and 5-over 75, while Williams carded a 3-over 73 and a 4-over 74.
Louis Birchall will enter Tuesday's final round in 64th place (153, +13) after his rounds of 78 (+8) and 75 (+5).
After posting a 10-over 80 to open the day, Charlie Bull rebounded with a round of 76 (+6) to end Monday in a tie for 74th place (156, +16).
Zach Gollwitzer got off to a solid start on the day, firing a round of 3-over 73 before withdrawing from the second round due to illness.
Tomorrow's final round is slated for a 9 a.m. ET start. There will be no Golfstat live scoring for the event. Fans should check GoZips.com later in the day for results.
