MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Akron men's golf team sits in 14th place at the conclusion of day one of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
The Zips ended the day with a 36-hole score of 33-over 609 following rounds of 17-over 305 and 16-over 304. No. 27 Auburn leads the field by five strokes with a two-round tally of 572 (-4).
Charlie Bull is the lone Zip inside the top 25, ending play on day one in a tie for 21st place. He posted rounds of 2-over 74 and 1-over 73 for a score of 147 (+3).
Ryan Harris sits two shots back of Bull in a tie for 37th place with a 36-hole score of 5-over 149. Harris carded a 4-over 76 in the morning, followed by a 1-over 73 in the afternoon.
Louis Birchall, who missed the end of the fall season due to injury, made his return to the course with rounds of 75 (+3) and 79 (+7) to finish the day in a tie for 59th place (154, +10).
Chandler Morgan and Zach Gollwitzer rounded out the scoring-five in a tie for 72nd and 75th place, respectively. Morgan (161, +17) carded rounds of 82 (+10) and 79 (+7), while Gollwitzer (162, +18) posted scores of 80 (+8) and 82 (+10).
