Men's Golf Opens Spring Slate on Monday at Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's golf team will open its 2014 spring season on Monday at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
The Zips will face a 15-team field that is comprised of 10 Golfstat Top-100 teams, including No. 27 Auburn, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 36 Kentucky, No. 41 Memphis, No. 53 South Alabama (host), No. 58 Georgia State, No. 71 Chattanooga, No. 79 Mississippi, No. 84 Middle Tennessee and No. 98 Davidson. The rest of the field includes Illinois State, Samford, Southern Mississippi and Texas State.
The 54-hole event begins on Monday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET. The second round will immediately follow the first, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET start on the first and 10th tees. Fans can follow all the action online via Golfstat Live Scoring.
Akron finished in 14th place at last year's edition of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate after posting a two-day score of 920 (+56).
The Zips enter the spring after posting a fourth-place finish at the 2013 Pinetree Intercollegiate on Oct. 22 to close the fall slate. UA posted a three-round score of 20-over 884.
Akron was paced by sophomore Ryan Harris, who finished in a tie for second place with a 54-hole score of 215 (-1).
