AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron baseball team is hosting a Halloween charity softball game on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. ET to benefit Jacob Sypert, an 11-year-old fan battling Leukemia.
The game will be held in the Stile Athletics Field House located on the University of Akron campus.
Sypert was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was four years old. The team was matched with Sypert last year through Team Impact, an organization that helps to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses by matching them with college athletic teams.
Since being matched, Sypert has thrown out the first pitch at Zips baseball games and has assisted the team as a bat boy as the Zips have taken him on as one of their own.
The Halloween scrimmage held in support of his battle is free of charge. Costumes are encouraged at the event and donations are welcome. All donations will directly benefit Sypert and his family.
