Women's Golf Concludes Nittany Lion Invitational in a Tie for Ninth Place

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The University of Akron women's golf team concluded the 37th Nittany Lion Invitational in a tie for ninth place on Sunday at the par-72, 6,263-yard Penn State Blue Course.
The Zips posted a round of 20-over 312 to end the weekend with a 54-hole score of 922 (+58). Akron ended the day tied with Mid-American Conference foe Ohio. MAC-rival Kent State posted a four-shot win after carding a three-round score of 873 (+9).
Freshman Lina Bengtsson just missed a top-10 finish, closing play in a tie for 11th place for her first-collegiate top-25 performance. She fired a round of 2-over 74 to finish with a weekend score of 224 (+8).
Sophomore and fellow Swede Frida Fougberg earned her first top-25 of the season, posting a round of 3-over 75 on Sunday to finish with a total of 226 (+10) to close play in a tie for 17th place.
Senior Sara Chaves and junior Laura Murray each finished in a tie for 57th place with identical three-round tallies of 237 (+21). Chaves closed the round with an 83 (+11) while Murray carded a 10-over 82.
Senior Whitney Graff finished in 80th place (246, +30), posting a round of 87 (+15). Sophomore Sierra Everson rounded out the squad in a tie for 86th place (252, +36). Everson ended the weekend with a round of 81 (+9).
The Zips return to action on Oct. 7 when they travel to Fishers, Ind., for the 2013 MAC Fall Preview.
