SEASIDE, Calif. – The University of Akron men's golf team closed the 2013 Saint Mary's Invitational at the Bayonet (par-72, 7,104 yards) and Blackhorse (par-72, 7,024 yards) Golf Courses in 19th place on Tuesday.
The Zips finished the event with a 54-hole score of 926 (+62) following a final-round 307 (+19). California (854, -10) won the event by a large margin, posting a 30-stroke win over fellow Pac-12 foe Oregon (884, +20).
Senior Charlie Bull and freshman J.B. Williams led the way for the Zips, closing out the week in a tie for 62nd place with scores of 230 (+14). Bull posted a round of 9-over 81 while Williams carded a 78 (+6) during the final round..
Freshman Zach Gollwitzer, after a tough first round on Monday, posted his second-consecutive solid round, carding a 3-over 75 to finish tied for 82nd place (235, +19).
Sophomore Louis Birchall ended the day tied for 87th place (236, +20). He closed out the tournament with a final-round 78 (+6).
Sophomore Carr Vernon closed out the scoring-five in 104th place (247, +31) following a round of 76 (+4), his best of the tournament.
The Zips return to action on Oct. 7 when they play host to the Firestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
