SEASIDE, Calif. – The University of Akron men's golf team sits in 19th place after day one of the 2013 Saint Mary's Invitational at the Bayonet (par-72, 7,104 yards) and Blackhorse (par-72, 7,024 yards) Golf Courses.
The Zips finished the day with a 36-hole score of 619 (+43) following rounds of 312 (+24) and 307 (+19). California leads the field by 18 strokes after posting a two-round tally of 570 (-6).
Senior Charlie Bull led the way for the Zips, closing out day one in a tie for 30th place with a score of 149 (+5). He carded rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3).
Freshman J.B. Williams is tied for 49th place (152, +8) following back-to-back rounds of 4-over 76. Sophomore Louis Birchall sits in a tie for 90th place with a total score of 158 (+14). Birchall posted scores of 76 (+4) and 82 (+10).
Freshman Zach Gollwitzer had a rough start to the day, carding a 14-over 86, before rebounding with a 2-over 74 to close play in a tie for 96th place (160, +16).
Sophomore Carr Vernon closed out the scoring-five in 104th place (171, +27) following rounds of 89 (+17) and 82 (+10).
