Carr Vernon Advances to Match Play at 113th U.S. Amateur

BROOKLINE, Mass. – University of Akron sophomore golfer Carr Vernon closed out the day with a 3-under 67 to advance to the match play portion of the 113th U.S. Amateur Championship on Tuesday.
Vernon closed the day with a 36-hole tally of 2-over 142 following a first-round 75 (+5). He is one of 64 players that will take to the course on Wednesday to compete in the Round of 64.
Tomorrow's match between Vernon and Matt Emery, of Franklin, Tenn., will begin at 10:10 a.m. ET. The winner will advance to the Round of 32, which is set for Thursday morning. Fans can watch coverage of the day's events on the Golf Channel from 3-5 p.m. ET.
This year's U.S. Amateur consists of 312 players. The winner of the U.S. Amateur receives: A gold medal and custody of the Havemeyer Trophy for the ensuing year, an exemption from local and sectional qualifying for the next U.S. Open, an exemption from qualifying for the next 10 U.S. Amateurs, an exemption from qualifying for the next British Open Championship and a likely invitation to the next Masters Tournament.
