KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Charlie Bull and Ryan Harris posted top-25 finishes as The University of Akron men's golf team closed the final round of the Irish Creek Collegiate in a three-way tie for ninth place on Sunday.
The top-25 showings were the seventh for Bull and the second for Harris as the pair concluded play with two other players in a tie for 19th place (217, +4). Bull carded a round of 3-over 74 while Harris posted a score of 1-over 72.
The Zips closed out the event with a 14-over 298 to end the final round tied with VCU and Richmond (879, +27). North Carolina, No. 47 in the latest Golfstat Top-100, beat rival and No. 41 North Carolina State by two strokes with a three-round tally of 859 (+7). Akron defeated two top-100 teams in No. 78 East Carolina and No. 88 Louisville while seven of the eight teams ahead of the Zips were in the top-100 entering the weekend.
Louis Birchall finished tied for 47th place with a two-day score of 11-over 224 after shooting a round of 10-over 81 on Sunday.
Carr Vernon's round of 4-over 75 moved him into a tie for 56th place with a score of 12-over 225 while Cameron Simmons closed out the scoring-five tied for 83rd place (235, +22) following a round of 77 (+6).
Akron will close out the regular season beginning April 20 when it travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational.
