Three Zips in Top-25 as Men's Golf Closes Day One in Sixth Place

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Three players sit inside the top-25 as The University of Akron men's golf team posted two of its best rounds of the season to finish day one of the Irish Creek Collegiate in sixth place on Saturday.
The Zips posted rounds of 7-over 291 and 6-over 290 to close the day with a 36-hole tally of 13-over 581. North Carolina, No. 47 in the latest Golfstat Top-100, leads the field with a 1-under 567. Of the nine Golfstat Top-100 teams in the field, Akron leads four of them and is within 10 strokes of four more.
Charlie Bull, Louis Birchall and Ryan Harris led the way for Akron as all three sit inside the top-25. Bull and Birchall are tied for 13th place with totals of 1-over 143. Bull carded rounds of 1-over 72 and even-par 71, while Birchall fired a career-best round of 1-under 70 in the morning before recording a second-round 73 (+2).
Harris is two strokes back of Bull and Birchall in a tie for 23rd place with a 36-hole score of 145 (+3). He opened play with a round of even-par 71 before closing the day with a 3-over 74.
Carr Vernon is tied for 51st place with a two-round score of 150 (+8). He got off to a slow start, posting a first-round 78 (+7) before rebounding with a 1-over 72 in the afternoon.
Cameron Simmons closed out the scoring-five in 85th place (158, +16) following rounds of 80 (+9) and 78 (+7).
