AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron men's basketball head coach Keith Dambrot will be Monday's speaker to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club at Tozzi's in Canton.
Lunch is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET, with the program beginning at 12:10 p.m.
Dambrot has become a regular speaker to the club since becoming the Zips' head coach in 2004.
The 2012-13 season was a banner one for the Zips as Dambrot guided his alma mater to a school-record tying 26 wins (26-7) and the Mid-American Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Akron also won its second-consecutive MAC regular season title, in addition to the program's third tournament title. UA is just the third team in the last 30 years to repeat as regular season champions and the first team to sweep the regular season and tournament titles in the same season in the last five year.
Dambrot was named the MAC Coach of the Year on March 13 and the Red Auerbach Coach of the Year on April 8. He was also named a finalist for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year award and the Hugh Durham Award, which recognizes the nation's top mid-major coach.
Included in this season's list of achievements were the Zips' first national ranking, Dambrot's 200th win at Akron and 300th win overall, four All-MAC selections, five MAC Player of the Week winners and the league's second two-time Defensive Player of the Year (Zeke Marshall) in the award's 17-year history.
Next week's speaker is Ohio University football coach Frank Solich.
