Baseball Defeated by Canisius on Wednesday, 8-5

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron (6-24) baseball team was defeated by Canisius College (21-10) by a score of 8-5 in a weather-shortened, six-inning game on Wednesday afternoon on Lee R. Jackson Field.
Sophomore Jon Pusateri made the start at pitcher for the Zips, and turned in 3.2 innings pitched with three earned runs and six hits allowed. Pusateri's record now stands at 1-7 this season.
The Akron offense started strong in the bottom of the first inning, as the squad rallied for five runs scored to take the first lead of the game.
The scoring threat began with Devan Ahart at the plate and runners on first and third with no outs in the first inning. Ahart roped a double to deep center field to plate Daulton Mosbarger from third base.
Matt LaRocca followed Ahart's double with a single to centerfield, bringing in Matt Rembielak from third. After LaRocca's RBI base hit, Joey Havrilak hit the Zips second double of the game, which scored Ahart.
Jared Turocy captured UA's final RBI of the game on an RBI groundout to the pitcher to score LaRocca. Havrilak went on to score the fifth run of the inning on a Canisius passed ball.
The Canisius offense caught up to the Zips lead during the rain shortened game, as the Golden Griffins plated one run in the third, six runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth, which brought the game to its final score of 8-5.
Overall, the Zips offense registered seven base hits, four RBI and one walk.
Akron's next game will be the first of a three game series at Mid-American Conference opponent, Ohio University. UA will play OU in the first game on Friday at 3 p.m., which will be followed up by games on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m., on both days.
