Akron Coach Jodi Kest (Slippery Rock, 1984): Kest is in her eighth season at Akron, posting a 100-123 (.448) mark. She is 326-276 (.542) in 21+ seasons as a collegiate head coach. Kest guided Akron to its best season in program history in 2012-13, including the Zips' first trip to the MAC championship game and their second ever appearance in the WNIT.

The Zips conclude the Cal Poly Holiday Beach Classic with a neutral site game against UC Davis Saturday evening.
News, Notes and Storylines
• Akron was hindered by a slow start to the second half in a 84-74 loss to Cal Poly on Friday night.
• After shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the first half, Akron was held to a meager 28.9 percent showing in the second period. The Zips were also out-rebounded 53-35, which allowed Cal Poly to finish with 22 second-chance points.
• Rachel Tecca led all scorers with 28 points, 20 of which came in the first half, and nine rebounds. Hanna Luburgh notched her fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 boards.
• Tecca entered the weekend leading the nation in scoring at 28.2 points per game. She is 21 points shy of becoming Akron's all-time leading scorer and surpassing Kara Murphy's (2008-11) mark of 1,777 points.
• UA returns three starters and nine letterwinners from a team that finished 23-10 overall and 12-4 in league play in 2012-13, en route to its first ever appearance in the MAC championship game. The third-seeded Zips saw their tournament run end in a 86-68 loss to fourth-seeded Central Michigan.
• The Zips made just the third postseason appearance in program history in 2013, advancing to the postseason WNIT for the second time (1999). UA fell on the road in the first round to Duquesne, 71-66.
• Rachel Tecca, reigning MAC Player of the Year and a three-time All-MAC selection, was named to the Preseason All-MAC East squad for the third-straight year. Fellow senior Hanna Luburgh was also named to the Preseason All-MAC East team after finishing her junior campaign as one of the top shooting guards in the conference.
• Akron's 2013-14 schedule features contests with eight different opponents that played in postseason tournaments last year.
A Look at UC Davis
UC Davis enters Saturday's game with a 1-4 overall record this season, with its only win coming against San Jose State (95-61). The Aggies' losses have not been too far off the mark, however, as they fell to San Francisco in their tournament opener Friday night by two points.
Sydnee Fipps leads UCD in scoring with 15.6 points per game, and is joined in double figures by Kelsey Harris with 11.8 ppg. Fipps and Alyson Doherty pull down 6.0 rebounds per game to pace UC Davis on the boards.

Akron at Cal Poly Recap
Akron started the night off strong but was unable to combat a slow start to the second half as the Zips fell to defending Big West Conference champion Cal Poly, 84-74, Friday night.
Rachel Tecca and Hanna Luburgh combined for 52 of the Zips' points. Tecca led all scorers with 28 points, 20 of which came in the first half, to go with nine rebounds. Hanna Luburgh picked up her fourth double-double of the season, posting 24 points and 12 boards.
Carly Young and Anita Brown added eight points apiece for UA.

Give Us The Ball
If it seems like the Zips are on offense for a majority of the game, that's because they are. Akron is 15th among all Division I teams in possessions per 40 minutes, averaging 85.0 possessions a game.
Spreading the Wealth
Led by the country's top point guard in 2013, Akron has no problem sharing the ball offensively. The Zips claimed the eighth spot in the nation this week in assists, posting 21.2 dimes per game. UA assists on 68 percent of its baskets.
Scoring Threats
Through the first five games of the season, senior forward Rachel Tecca is leading the country in scoring, averaging 28.2 points per game, and Hanna Luburgh is not far behind, ranking fifth with 26.2 ppg. As a team, Akron is the 10th-highest scoring team in the nation at 89.6 ppg, and has scored 80 or more points in four of its first five games.
Cleaning the Glass
The Zips wiped the backboards with Canisius last week, out-rebounding the Griffs 48-33, including 17 offensive rebounds that led to 17 second-chance points. Akron is 3-1 so far this season when it out-rebounds its opponent.
