Zips Reset
• Akron suffered its first Mid-American Conference defeat since 2006 in a 2-0 setback to Hartwick Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field.
• The loss snapped UA's string of 49 (46-0-3) consecutive league matches without a loss, which represents an NCAA record.
• Despite dominating the stat sheet with 27 shots – including 13 on frame – and 16 corner kicks, the Zips couldn't break through the entrenched Hawks' defense.
• Hartwick's Kit Tregear broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute by flicking home a long throw-in. Then, with UA throwing numbers forward, Chris Walter essentially put the game out of reach in the 86th minute by finishing a cross from Marc Russell to capitalize on a Hawks' counter attack.
• It was Akron's first loss to Hartwick since the first meeting of the all-time series in 1973.
About Cleveland State
• Champions of the Horizon League in 2012, the Vikings returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1980 last fall. CSU saw its season come to an end in a 2-1, first-round defeat to Michigan State.
• After starting the 2013 campaign with a 2-2 record through its first four contests, Cleveland State has gone 1-6 since then and brings a four-match losing slide to play Wednesday night. Included in that losing streak is a 1-0 setback at home to MAC member Buffalo.
• Six players have found the back of the net at least once for Cleveland State, which is led by three-goal scorer Jordan Hart.
• Former Akron recruit, Cristian Arboleda – now a third-year sophomore – has appeared in 10 matches, tallying one goal and one assist.
• Second-year CSU assistant coach Kirk Harwat was a two-year letterwinner at Akron from 2002-03.
Cleveland State Series Notes
• Wednesday's game will represent the 50th all-time meeting between Akron and Cleveland State. The Zips have won 16 of the last 17 matches against the Vikings and lead the series 36-10-3 (.765) overall.
• The last two meetings have carried noteworthy significance. CSU was the only team to defeat UA during its NCAA National Championship season in 2010 and did so in the teams' last meeting at Krenzler Field. The Zips then returned the favor in a season-opening, 5-0 rout in 2011 at FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. The victory extended Akron's home unbeaten streak to 40 matches, which set an NCAA record.
• The Zips and Vikings did not meet in 2012.
Resilient Zips
• Akron has responded well following each of is previous two losses this season, posting a 1-0, double-overtime win at Rutgers on Sept. 8 and a 2-1, double-overtime win at home against San Diego State on Sept. 15.
• UA is 7-0-1 in games following a loss since 2008 and has not dropped consecutive matches since 2007.
