KENNESAW, Ga. – Sophomore Ryan Harris posted one of the lowest rounds in school history on Monday as he and the Zips grabbed the day one lead at the 2013 Pinetree Intercollegiate on the par-72, 7,108-yard Pinetree Country Club.
Harris closed the day with a score of 8-under 136 to grab a six-shot lead over the field. As a team, the Zips hold a four-shot lead (576, E) after back-to-back rounds of even-par 288 and lead No. 43 Kennesaw State by four strokes (580, +4).
Akron will look to win two tournaments in a season since posting two victories in October 2007. The Zips won the season-opening Golfweek Program Challenge last month (Sept. 8-10).
Harris torched the course during round one, posting six birdies, one eagle and one bogey. He opened the day with four birdies on the first five holes, making the turn at 4-under. Following his lone bogey on No. 10, he would put together four pars before closing the round birdie-eagle-birdie par over the final four holes. He followed up the round with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon, posting two birdies and one bogey.
Harris' round of 7-under 65 is the second-lowest round in relation to par in school history, trailing only Blake Sattler's 8-under 63 on April 2, 2007. Harris' 65 is tied for the second-lowest aggregate round in school history, tied with two rounds of 65 by Blake Sattler and one by Tim Edwards. His 36-hole score of 8-under 136 is second (par) and tied for third (aggregate), respectively, in Akron golf history.

Bull posted a round of 1-under 71, followed by a round of 1-over 73 to end the day with a score of even-par 144 to end the day in a tie for fifth place.
