AKRON, Ohio – Gold took a 2-1 series lead over Blue in the third game of the Fall World Series with a 4-0 victory on Monday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field.
Both starting pitchers started the game strong, as the game was deadlocked in a no-score tie through the first three innings.
However, Gold would strike for a four-run rally in the top of the fourth for the only runs of the game. Junior Devan Ahart led off the inning with a walk, and quickly took second on a stolen base.
Freshman Dom Iero reached on a fielder's choice before third baseman Matt LaRocca ripped an opposite field two-RBI double to right field to put Gold up 2-0.
Later in the inning, freshman Brian Lees contributed a two-RBI single to center. Lees' two-run single brought the game to its final score of 4-0.
Myles McVeigh made the start on the mound for the Gold team, and worked 7.0 scoreless innings of two-hit baseball. McVeigh also posted five strikeouts in game three.
Freshman Jonny Nottingham and LaRocca finished off the game, with each tossing a scoreless inning of relief and one strikeout.
Senior Joe Cochran started for the Blue squad. Cochran tossed 6.0 innings with four runs allowed and five strikeouts. Andrew Fanning pitched the final 3.0 innings for Blue, allowing just one hit and recording one strikeout.
