Men's Golf to Conclude Fall Schedule Monday at Pinetree Intercollegiate

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's golf team will conclude its fall schedule on Monday when it opens play at the 2013 Pinetree Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,108-yard Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga.
The event will be the final event in Akron's four-event fall slate in which the Zips have posted one win and two top-six finishes.
The Zips will face two Mid-American Conference foes (Ball State and Northern Illinois) and seven Golfstat Top-100 teams (No. 43 Kennesaw State, No. 58 Winthrop, No. 61 Indiana, No. 71 Louisville, No. 85 Chattanooga, No. 94 Troy, No. 99 Florida Gulf Coast) in the 13-team field. Akron will also face Samford, Texas-Pan American and Wofford.
Round one will begin on Monday with tee times set for 8 a.m. ET from the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. The second round will begin immediately following the conclusion of the opening 18 holes. The third and final round is set for Tuesday, with players teeing off from the first and tenth tees beginning at 8:20 a.m. Fans can follow all the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
The Zips are coming off a sixth-place showing at The Firestone Invitational, Presented by FirstEnergy Solutions, on Oct. 8.
Akron mounted a furious comeback during the final round to post a score of 2-over 290 to close play with a three-round tally of 880 (+16).
The Zips were led by sophomore Carr Vernon, who finished alone in second place with a three-round score of 6-under 210. Vernon, who closed with a round of 4-under 68 – tied for the lowest of his college career – was tied for the lead in the clubhouse before Eastern Michigan's Stuart Grehan went eagle-par-birdie over the final three holes to win by three strokes (207, -9).
