Tennis' Berestetska Competes in Qualifying Singles Draw at Midwest Regional

Qualifying Singles Draw | Doubles Main Draw/Schedule of Play
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After earning a bye to the qualifying singles round of 32, Akron senior Ksenia Berestetska was eliminated from the bracket with a loss in straight sets on Thursday in day one of the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center.
Berestetska, one of three Zips selected to compete at the regional, was defeated 6-2, 7-5 by Northwestern's Maddie Lipp. Lipp won her opening round contest 6-3, 6-0 over Toledo's Katelyn Nguyen.
Competition in main draw doubles begins Friday, with the UA team of junior Olga Shkundina and freshman Shannon Newnes scheduled to face off against Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Diana Tokar and Christina Colarossi.
Shkundina was selected to play in the singles main draw, which begins on Saturday.
