Men's Golf Climbs Four Spots at The Invitational at Kiawah

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Using the third-best round of the day, The University of Akron men's golf team finished day two of The Invitational at Kiawah on The Ocean Course in eighth place heading into the final round on Tuesday.
The Zips' round of 297 (+9) was one of just three team scores to dip below 300 on the day, trailing only tournament leader and No. 18 Florida's 288 (E) and Texas Arlington's 292 (+4). Akron has a two-round score of 609 (+33) and is five shots out of the top five. The Gators hold a comfortable 20-stroke lead at 577 (+1).
Junior Charlie Bull will enter the final day in contention for a top-five finish following his second round of 73 (+1) in as many days. Bull is tied for fourth place with a score of 146 (+2).
Freshman Louis Birchall continued to play strong in his first collegiate event, bettering his first-round score of 4-over 78 with a round of 2-over 74 on Monday. He is tied for 22nd place at 152 (+8). Fellow freshman Carr Vernon sits in a tie for 44th place (157, +13) after posting a score of 8-over 80.
Senior Cameron Simmons climbed 35 spots on Monday courtesy of a round of 2-over 74. He is tied for 51st place (158, +14). Freshman Ryan Harris rebounded from a tough first round to card a 4-over 76 and will enter the final round tied for 73rd place (162, +18).
Senior Tim Lew rounded out the squad in a tie for 89th place with a score of 169 (+25) after shooting 85 (+13).
The final round is slated for a 7:30 a.m. ET start on Tuesday. The round can be followed live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
