Track Lands Eight On USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams

AKRON, Ohio – Eight members from The University of Akron track and field program were honored when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the names for its Division I All-Academic teams this week.
Representing the Zips on the women's side were Ariane Beaumont-Courteau (3.99 GPA, Dietetics), Jessica Delic (3.79, Sports Management), Katherine Lee (3.79, Dietetics), Claire Lucas (4.00, Business Administration) and Valerie Fraizer (Wert) (3.86, Art Education). Eric Hubbard (3.25, Business Administration), Bryan Jones (3.51, General Studies) and Alex McCune (3.79, Geology) earned the distinction from the men's team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Akron's honorees include four Mid-American Conference individual champions in Beaumont-Courteau (pole vault), Valerie Fraizer (weight throw), Hubbard (weight throw) and Bryan Jones (decathlon). Fraizer and Hubbard each went on to earn USTFCCCA All-American status at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, respectively.
Both the Zips' men's and women's teams were also recognized by the USTFCCCA for their collective academic success. The Akron women's team posted a team GPA of 3.26 while the defending MAC Champion men's team registered a mark of 3.11.
