Track Continues Outdoor Season At 85th Running Of The Texas Relays

AKRON, Ohio - After a rousing start to its outdoor season last weekend, The University of Akron track and field team will next head to the 85th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays to compete with some of the nation's elite athletes.
In all, UA will send 10 competitors to the four-day meet, which starts Wednesday and runs through Saturday, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Senior Mike Uhle, a seven-time Mid-American Conference pole vault champion, will make his season debut as one of five UA pole vaulters in action this week. Joining him will be 2012 MAC Indoor champion Joe Wesley and Dan Garrett from the men's side, while 2011 USTFCCCA All-American Katherine Lee and Ariane Beaumont-Courteau represent the women's team.
Also making the trip will be two more 2012 MAC Indoor champions in Eric Hubbard (weight throw) and Nick Banke (shot put), long jumper Tyshaun Peoples, who advanced to the NCAA regionals a year ago, and decathloners Bryan Jones and Alex McCune.
Jones and McCune will get things started for the Zips Wednesday with the first five events of the decathlon beginning with the 100-meter dash at Noon, followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meters. The decathlon concludes Thursday, starting with the 110-meter hurdles at Noon (ET), followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meter run.
The men's pole vault (Garrett, Uhle and Wesley) and hammer (Hubbard) competitions will also be held Thursday, starting at 4:30 p.m.
The women will have their turn in the pole vault (Beaumont-Courteau and Lee) Friday morning at 11 a.m., while Banke will have to wait until 2 p.m. to compete in the men's discus. Peoples will represent UA's lone competitor Saturday in the long jump, which gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
