Men's Golf Battle Strong Winds; Finishes Day One in Fourth

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With winds averaging 25 mph and gusting to 40 mph, The University of Akron men's golf team battled the conditions to finish day one of the WKU Kenny Perry Invitational in fourth place on Sunday.
Not a single player in the field broke par, with only 12 of 60 players breaking 80. The Zips posted a round of 33-over 321 on the day as Jacksonville State topped the day-one leaderboard with a round of 17-over 305. Louisville (315, +27) and Austin Peay (320, +32) round out the top three.
Three Akron golfers finished the day in the top 15, led by freshman Louis Birchall. His round of 5-over 77 put him tied for fourth place, five shots out of the lead. JSU's Franco Grillo's round of even-par 72 paced the field.
Junior Charlie Bull is one shot behind Birchall thanks to a round of 6-over 78. Bull is tied for eighth. Freshman Carr Vernon is tied for 15th place following a round of 81 (+9).
Freshman Ryan Harris' round of 13-over 85 put him in a tie for 37th place while senior Cameron Simmons is alone in 45th place after posting a round of 87 (+15).
Play is set to continue on Monday will also start at 9:00 a.m. ET while the final round will tee off at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Fans can follow all of the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
