Swimming and Diving Takes On Eastern Michigan Saturday
January 21 | Women's Swimming & Diving
AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron swimming and diving program heads to Eastern Michigan Saturday with hopes of winning its second straight dual meet. Action at Jones Natatorium begins at 1 p.m.
Akron (3-3, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) is coming off a commanding 176-123 win over Marshall last weekend. The meet is UA's second to last tune-up before next month's MAC Championships at Ocasek Natatorium, with the Zips will host Buffalo next Friday at 4 p.m.
Eastern Michigan has compiled an overall dual meet record of 3-3 and is 1-1 against conference foes this season.
Akron's Kelsea Cross will be looking to continue her strong form in the backstroke events. The junior from Columbus, Ind. has took home victories in four straight backstroke swims over the last two meets. Also winning a pair of events last weekend against Marshall was senior Jessica Ickes, who won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.
In the distance events versus the Thundering Herd, junior Becca Zimmer won the 500-yard freestyle and was then the runner-up in the 200 free.
On the boards, the tandem of Leeanna Hoover and Carla McNamara continue to impress. For the second straight week, the duo teamed up to split the diving events. Hoover has produced the MAC's seventh-best 3-metere score (301.95), while McNamara ranks third on the 1-meter conference list (296.25).
