August 05 | Men's Soccer
AKRON, Ohio – With the season opener just weeks away, The University of Akron men's soccer program will host a Meet the Team Night – exclusively for current season ticket holders – on Thursday, Aug. 18, on the Club Level of InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the program scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Attendees, who will be checked in at the door, will be able to pick up their tickets for the upcoming campaign, get their picture taken with the national championship trophy and receive Akron Soccer Scarves at that time.
Highlighting the event will be an appearance by head coach Caleb Porter and the entire 2011 team and the unique opportunity for season ticket holders to cut and keep their own portion of the nets used during the NCAA Championship game last December in Santa Barbara, Calif. Complimentary refreshments will be included.
Following the festivities, all fans are invited to FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field to watch the Zips in action in an intra-squad scrimmage starting at 7:30 p.m. that is open to the public.
It's not too late to become an Akron soccer season ticket holder. General admission season tickets and Family Plan packages are on sale now. Furthermore, the construction of 336 new bleacher-back seats to the grandstand was announced Friday.

The Zips, who captured the school's first team national championship in any sport last season, will officially kick off the 2011 campaign on Aug. 27 when they host Cleveland State at 7:30 p.m. The game will have historic implications as UA will have the opportunity to break an NCAA record for the longest home unbeaten streak with a positive result. The first 2,500 fans to the match will receive a commemorative miniature national championship banner.
