Zips to Send Five Pole Vaulters to NCAA East Regionals

AKRON, Ohio – Junior pole vaulter Dan Garrett has been added to the long list of University of Akron athletes who will compete at the NCAA East Regional this weekend, UA head track and field coach Dennis Mitchell announced Monday.

Garrett, who was a silver medalist at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships after clearing 16-03.25, will join 18 other Zips competing in 21 events at E.C. Billy Hayes Track on the campus of Indiana University from May 26-28 with the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships.

In all, UA will send five pole vaulters to the event, including three on the men's side including Garrett, reigning MAC Champion Kenny Owens and Joe Wesley. Katherine Lee and Ariane Beaumont-Courteau will represent the Akron women's team.

Live stats and video streaming will be available this weekend and can be accessed at IUHoosiers.com. The top 12 finishers in each qualifying round will advance to the NCAA Championships.
