Pair of MAC Away Matches Up Next for Tennis

AKRON, Ohio - Nationally ranked, undefeated in
league play and winners of five-consecutive matches, The University
of Akron tennis team pays a visit to Mid-American Conference
opponents Eastern Michigan and Toledo on Friday and Saturday,
respectively. First serve for both events is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Akron (13-3, 3-0 MAC), which is listed No. 74 in this week's
Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, is one of two teams
with an undefeated MAC record thus far this season. Miami (Ohio) is
4-0 versus conference foes and 12-5 overall. The Zips and RedHawks
will face off in Oxford, Ohio, on Friday, April 22 during the final
week of the regular season.
In addition to its national team ranking, UA's doubles team of
junior Zara
Harutyunyan and sophomore Angelina
Jogasuria are ranked 45th in the ITA's doubles rankings. The
duo has been nationally ranked since January and are also listed
eighth in the Midwest region. Harutyunyan, who received UA's
highest-ever individual singles ranking of 73rd nationally in the
ITA's preseason poll in September, is ranked 18th in the Midwest
region in singles as well.
Harutyunyan is also the program's career leader in singles
victories, with 88 (15 singles wins this season). She surpassed
Mendy McMurtry's 83 victories, compiled from 1989-93.
Akron comes off a 7-0 road win versus Buffalo last Saturday in what
was its only outing last week, and this weekend's contests close
out a three-match road swing for the program.
Eastern Michigan (9-8, 2-1 MAC) scored a 7-0 win over Buffalo last weekend and has won two of its last three matches. UA has defeated EMU in each of the last two meetings, including by a score of 7-0 last season. The Zips scored a victory over Toledo (11-6, 2-1 MAC) last season as well, 5-2. That win snapped a 13-match losing streak for UA in the all-time series.
Akron returns home on Saturday, April 16 when it plays host to Northern Illinois at 1 p.m., in what will be its final home contest of the regular season.
