Zips Break School DMR Record at Penn Relays
April 29 | Track & Field
PHILADELPHIA - For the second consecutive season, The University of Akron track team broke the school record in the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field Friday.
The quartet of Willie Brown, Gabriel Genovesi, Max Hiltner and Brad Hough crossed the line in 9:56.72 to break the previous standard of 9:59.17, logged last April by Joe Mummert, James Seale, Brown and Zachary Brown.
The Zips' record-setting mark comes one day after senior distance runner Cassie Schenck rewrote the school standard in the women's steeplechase with a time of 10:22.17, which represents the top mark in the Mid-American Conference and is among the top 25 in the nation.
Brown, Genovesi, Hiltner and Hough will compete in the 4x800 Saturday on the final day of the Penn Relays while the rest of the team will be in action at the Ashland Alumni Open.
