Track Captures 16 Individual Event Wins at NE Ohio Quad Meet
April 02 | Track & Field
AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron track and field team picked up 16 individual event wins - including 10 on the men's side - on the second and final day of the Northeast Ohio Quad Meet Saturday against Ashland, Kent State and Youngstown State.
The Akron men's team defeated Ashland, Kent State and Youngstown State in dual meet scoring while the women's team defeated Ashland and Kent State but lost to Youngstown State. All throwing events took place outdoors at Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex while all non-throwing events were scored inside in the Stile Athletics Field House as a result of winter weather conditions in the area.
Of the men's 10 wins, five came from the running events alone. Max Hiltner won the 800m with a time of 1:53.93, Scott Meyers won the 3000m with a time of 8:26.49, Tyshaun Peoples won the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.31, KC LaCross won the 300 hurdles with a time of 37.89 and the quartet of Lorenzo Brazzell, Marcus Ferguson, Collister Fahie and Dominique Watson won the 4x100 with a time of 41.48.

Two more wins in the throwing events rounded out the Zips' big day as Nick Banke won the discus with a throw of 167-00 and Tyler Sweet won the javelin for the second straight weekend with a toss of 198-01.
Cassie Schenck gave the women's side a big boost with a pair of wins in the 800m (2:17.97) and the 1500m (4:39.34). Ro Rupe continued the run of strong performances from the distance unit by finishing first in the 3000m with a time of 10:15.84. Shauniece Steele produced Akron's other win from the running events with a first-place finish in the 400m (57.44).
Also bringing home top honors on the day were Katherine Lee, who cleared 13-03.50 to win the pole vault, and Brittany Cheese, who posted a mark of 18-11.75 to win the long jump.
