Tennis Scores Homeopening Shutout Sweep of CSU, YSU

AKRON, Ohio - The nationally-ranked University
of Akron tennis team posted shutout wins over visiting Cleveland
State and Youngstown State on Sunday in its homeopener at LaTuchie
Tennis Center. The Zips, who are listed 72nd in this week's
Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, improved to 8-2
overall in dual-match play this season.
The Zips topped the Vikings (3-8) and Penguins (3-4) in straight
sets at all six singles flights of those respective matches and
gave up just one doubles contest on the day, with Angelika
Jogasuria and Prang
Pantusart falling to CSU's Alex Power and Alexandra Bush 8-7
(5) at No. 2. Jogasuria and Pantusart opened that match with a 3-2
lead, but Power and Bush rallied to make it 7-all and held on for
the tiebreaker win.
UA won five of 12 singles sets against YSU by a score of 6-0 and
three other sets by a count of 6-1, after cruising to a pair of 8-1
victories and one 8-2 decision on the doubles court.
Against Cleveland State, Akron posted 8-1 wins at Nos. 1 and 3
doubles and went on to win seven singles sets by scores of either
6-0 or 6-1.
The Zips are idle until March 15, when they travel to Tulane as
part of the team's Spring Break trip to the state of Louisiana. UA
visits Nicholls State on March 18 and Louisiana Lafayette on March
19.
