Tennis Wraps Up Spring Break Trip with Two Victories

LAFAYETTE, La. - The
University of Akron tennis team concluded its Spring Break
trip to the state of Louisiana with a 7-0 victory versus Nicholls
State on Friday and 5-2 win over Louisiana Lafayette on
Saturday.
On Saturday against the Ragin' Cajuns (9-5), the Zips (10-3) gave
up the opening doubles point, but claimed five of six singles
flights to earn their fourth victory in five outings.
In singles, UA's Zara
Harutyunyan posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Julie Mazinova at
No. 1, Angelika
Jogasuria topped Milou Israel 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, Prang
Pantusart took care of Hannah Appleyard 6-0, 6-2 at No.
4, Anya
Baronayte downed Mia Gordon at No. 5, 6-3, 6-0, and Natalia
Kuvakina defeated Sandra Ahlquist 7-6 (4), 6-4 at No. 6.
ULL won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead, including a win over UA's No. 1 pair of Zara Harutyunyan and Angelina Jogasuria, 8-4. That Zips duo is ranked 27th nationally. Pantusart and Angelika Jogasuria defeated Appleyard and Ahlquist 8-0 at No. 2, but Baronayte and Jeremie Benjamin lost 8-5 at No. 3 to give up the point.
Audrey Wooland scored ULL's other point, getting the best of Angelina Jogasuria at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4.
"It is good to finish this trip on a high note," Akron head
coach Brandon
Padgett said. "We played much better under the outdoor
conditions than we have all week. We now have to begin preparation
for Western Michigan on Friday."
Akron begins Mid-American Conference play at home on Friday versus
WMU and Bowling Green a day later. Both matches are scheduled to
begin at 1 p.m. ET and will likely be held indoors at LaTuchie
Tennis Center in nearby Stow. Check GoZips.com next week for more

On Friday at Nicholls State (4-5), Akron faced little resistance
as the Zips won two of three doubles matches and earned a positive
outcome at Nos. 1-4 singles in straight sets. Due to injuries, NSU
forfeited the points from Nos. 5 and 6 singles. The Colonels posted
a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles courtesy of Samana Kalyansundaram and
Marina Ljoshevska over Benjamin and Baronayte.
