Akron vs. UC Santa Barbara Preview
AKRON, Ohio – Senior transfer Luke Holmes, who was named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week Monday, continued to receive praise for his efforts, as Soccer America and the Mid-American Conference came calling Wednesday.
Holmes, the 2010 NAIA National Player of the Year, earned a spot on Soccer America's National Team of the Week. He also became the third different UA player to earn MAC Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals and assisting a pair of game-winners to lead the Zips to wins over Ohio State and Western Michigan.
With a 7-0-2 overall record, Akron is one of just five Division I programs yet to sustain a loss this season. The No. 3 Zips will put their unbeaten record on the line tonight when they face No. 19 UC Santa Barbara at Harder Stadium on FOX Soccer Channel at 10:00 p.m. (ET)
UA, which has been defeated just once during the regular run of play in its last 59 matches dating back to the start of the 2009 season, is 18-1-1 (.925) during the regular season on the road or at neutral sites in their last 20 contests. The Zips and Gauchos will be meeting for just the second time in school history and the first time in Santa Barbara, Calif., tonight.
