All three freshmen have made an immediate impact for the Zips (12-2-2), who clinched their seventh straight Mid-American Conference regular-season championship Wednesday. Trapp and Yedlin have started every game while Gallego has started all but one after drawing a red card in a match at Cal State Northridge.
Trapp (5 A) and Yedlin (1 G, 3 A) have each tallied five points.
Akron will continue its final homestand of the regular season Saturday when ACC power Wake Forest pays visit to FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field for a 7:30 p.m. kick off. Zips' seniors Michael Balogun, Matt Dagilis and Luke Holmes will be recognized for their contributions to the Akron program prior to the start of the game.
Bush Earns a Spot in MLS
Former Akron goalkeeper Evan Bush, who was recently named the September Player of the Month in the North American Soccer League (NASL), was signed by the Montreal Impact last week.
The Impact will compete in Major League Soccer in 2012.
"I'm very excited and proud to get back in Montreal," Bush said in an Impact press release. "I'm pleased to be a part of the plans as the club moves to Major League Soccer. This past season opened my eyes on how professional this organization is. I am ready to take on the next challenge."
The signing will boost the total number of former UA players currently competing in MLS to 12.
Bush, who was a four-year letterwinner at UA from 2005-08, holds career school records for shutouts (48), minutes played (8,009) and wins (63).
