Blue Team Takes Come From Behind Victory in Game One of Fall World Series

AKRON, Ohio - The Blue team exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 8-7 (7 innings) win over the Gold team in game one of The University of Akron's Fall World Series Tuesday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Baseball Field.
Brandon Winter drove in a pair of runs on two hits and Ivory Alexander knocked a pair of doubles to lead the Blue team. Kevin Gamble picked up the win with two innings of shutout relief.
Sam Watkins drove in a pair to lead the Gold squad offensive attack. Gold starter Myles McVeigh pitched four innings of one-hit ball in picking up the no-decision.
The Gold team had slowly built a 7-1 lead heading into the decisive bottom of the sixth on the strength of McVeigh's pitching and run-scoring hits b Watkins, Sam Trecaso, Brady Stewart, James Sheltrown, and Brendan Liberti.
The Blue team's big sixth inning included RBI singles by Winter, Tyler Begun, and Gerrad Rohan, as well as Alexander's RBI double. The Blue team capped off the inning when Alexander scored on a wild pitch to give the home club the lead.
Akron's Fall World Series continues with game 2 on Thursday. First pitch is set for 3:35 p.m. at Lee R. Jackson Baseball Field.
