Tennis Scores 4-3 Comeback Win at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The University of Akron tennis team posted a 4-3 comeback win over Michigan State on Friday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The victory was the Zips' second in a week over a Big Ten Conference program and fourth-straight defeat of a school from that league.
Akron (2-0) opened its season last Saturday with a 5-2 win at Penn State, and during the 2010 campaign topped both PSU (5-2 on Jan. 29) and Michigan State (6-1 on Jan. 22) on the road as well.
Today versus the Spartans, UA fell behind 2-0 after giving up the doubles point with losses at the first and third position and a straight-sets defeat in the sixth flight of singles, but victories by identical twins Angelika Jogasuria and Angelina Jogasuria at third and second singles, respectively, tied the contest at 2-all. Angelika bested Marina Bohrer 3-6, 6-1, 6-0; while Angelina topped Valentina Rusakova 6-3, 7-5.
Michigan State (2-1) held to a 3-2 margin thanks to a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 win at first singles by Amy Barton over Zara Harutyunyan, but a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at the fifth position by Anya Baronayte over Dana Guentert, and a 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-2 decision for Prang Pantusart versus Whitney Wilson at the fourth slot clinched match point for the Zips.
"We fought hard in stints today, but in the end, Prang (Pantusart) pulled out a huge win for us," first-year Akron head coach Brandon Padgett said. "I'm very proud of how we finished the match, after such a sluggish start. This was a great test for us."
The Zips travel to Big East opponent Louisville on Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. ET.
