Meves Garners TDS National Team of the Week Honors

, a sophomore goalkeeper from The University of Akron men's
soccer team, has been named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of
the Week.

Freshman All-American in 2009, and the Zips (2-0) posted a pair of
shutouts on the road at No. 4 North Carolina, 3-0, and at No. 3
Wake Forest, 2-0, this past weekend. He was also named to Top
Drawer Soccer's All-Rookie Team last fall.
The native of Arlington Heights, Ill., matched a career high with
six saves against the Tar Heels last Friday and made excellent
reads on balls in the box against the Demon Deacons Sunday while
extending UA's consecutive shutout streak to seven games, dating
back to last November. Meves was particularly sharp in the opening
minutes at UNC with a pair of big saves that preserved UA's early
1-0 lead.
Meves set school records for shutouts (17), fewest goals allowed
(7), goals-against-average (0.28), minutes played (2,252) and wins
(23) as a true freshman last fall. His goals-against-average
(0.277) led the nation.
The Zips, who have now posted seven consecutive shutouts - dating
back to last November - will be open Mid-American Conference play
this weekend at Bowling Green. UA and the Falcons will kick off
next Saturday at 1 p.m. ET
