Track & Field Collects Items For U.S. Marine Company

Akron, Ohio - The University of Akron men's and women's cross country/track and field programs recently collected items to donate to the 3rd Battalion of the 25th Marines Regiment - also known as the Cold Steel Warriors.
Adopted by the Zips on March 25, Akron collected items for the troop prior to and during the Gardner-Webb football game (Sept. 11). UA collected mostly canned goods, personal hygiene products, and socks. As well, over 300 fans were at the game that signed cards to show their support, which will also go in the care packages. Hoping to show their appreciation for the military men and women, the Zips will send the supplies overseas to help the troop while they are serving our country.
Back in May, the Zips were allowed to attend the deployment ceremony, along with the Corps' families. The team has since followed the Corps, sent them letters of support and will send care packages while they are serving.
The 25th Marine Regiment is one of three infantry regiments within the Fourth Marine Division. Units of the regiment are located throughout the northeast United States, covering all states from Delaware to Ohio to Maine. The battalion is primarily a cold weather regiment and frequently trains in cold weather areas in the United States and around the world.
