Incoming Freshmen Earn Top Honors From IMG Academy

Two incoming freshmen for the University of Akron men's soccer
team - Reinaldo Brenes and Martin
Ontiveros - each earned highly regarded honors from the
IMG Soccer Academy after leading their club to a third-place finish
nationally in the U.S. Development Academy League.
Ontiveros, who scored 24 goals in 24 games, was named Player of the
Year while Brenes garnered Offensive Player of the Year recognition
as a holding midfielder. Overall, their team finished with an
18-5-4 record and qualified for the Academy League playoffs in
Greensboro, N.C.
The U.S Development Academy League consists of the top youth clubs
in the nation.
Brenes was a member of the U-17 Costa Rican National Team and is a
current member of the U-18s. The 5-10, 155-pound midfielder is the
39th-ranked recruit in the nation, according to Top Drawer
Soccer. A native San Jose, Costa Rica, Brenes won the Coaches
Award at IMG for the U-18s in 2008 and in 2009.
Ontiveros, a 5-9, 145-pound midfielder, is the 34th-ranked in the
nation by Top Drawer Soccer. He was a member of the U-18
U.S. National Team Pool.
