Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision at No. 26 DePaul

CHICAGO - The 63rd-ranked University of Akron
tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday,
falling 6-1 to 26th-ranked DePaul in a non-league matchup at
Lakeshore Athletic Club.
Akron (15-1) opened the afternoon by posting a loss at all three
doubles positions, having its 14-match streak of claiming the
doubles point end. Zips Angelika

Pantusart gave up an 8-0 decision at No. 1 to the nation's
12th-ranked doubles pair of Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic, while
the UA duo of Angelina
Jogasuria and Anya Baronayte lost 8-2 at
No. 2 to Katarina Milinkovic and Sandra Zmak. The Zips' team of Zara
Harutyunyan and Jeremie Benjamin hung tough
at No. 3, giving up an 8-7 (3) decision to Kirsten Gambrell and Gia
McKnight.
DePaul (14-3) scored straight-set wins at the Nos. 2-4 and 6
singles positions. Baronayte put up a fight in the opening set at
the No. 5 spot versus McKnight, claiming a 7-6 decision and then
taking the second set by a score of 6-2 to earn UA's lone point of
the day. Harutyunyan, ranked 81st nationally in singles, fell in
three sets at No. 1 to Redecsi, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Zips return home next weekend to face Mid-American Conference
opponents Ball State on Friday (April 16) and Miami (Ohio) a day
later. Both matches are scheduled to be held at Springside Racquet
and Fitness Club in nearby Fairlawn and will begin at 1 p.m. ET.
Akron and Miami share the first-place spot in the league standings,
with 4-0 conference records.
