Tennis Shuts Out EKU, Remains Undefeated

RICHMOND, Ky. - The University of Akron tennis team remained undefeated in its early dual-match schedule, topping Eastern Kentucky 7-0 on Saturday at Greg Adams Indoor Tennis Center. The Zips improved to 4-0 and continued their best start to a season since the 1991-92 squad went 8-0. UA also posted its third win in 11 tries against EKU (1-4).
Akron won the early doubles point for the third-consecutive match, winning at all three positions with little resistance. The Zips went on to post straight-set wins at Nos. 1-4 and 6 singles, and earned a three-set victory at No. 5 to complete the sweep.
On the doubles court, Angelika Jogasuria and Prang Pantusart scored an 8-2 win at No. 1 over Jessica Albuquerque and Anouk Faure, while Angelina Jogasuria and Anya Baronayte topped Myriem Mhirit and Alyze Pagal by the same count at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3, Zara Harutyunyan and Jeremie Benjamin got the best of Anais Hamel and Catarina Branco, 8-3.
In singles action, Harutyunyan downed Mhirit 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1; Angelina Jogasuria bested Faure 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2; Angelika Jogasuria topped Albuquerque 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3; Pantusart defeated Pagal 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and Benjamin ended a two-game losing skid with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over Branco. On the No. 5 court, Baronayte scored a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (0) win over Hamel.
Akron competes at Louisville on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET, in what
will be its last competition until a Feb. 20 contest at Cleveland
State.
