Mattocks Named to CSN National Team of the Week
November 23 | Men's Soccer
University of Akron freshman Darren
Mattocks, who is the sixth-most prolific scorer in the
nation, has been named to the College Soccer News National
Team of the Week.
Mattocks, who has recorded five goals and one assist in his last
three games, is also the second-highest freshman scorer in Division
I with 17 goals in 21 contests. It is the third time the Jamaican
striker has been recognized by CSN this season after also being
named to the National Team of the Week on Oct. 11th and 18th.
Mattocks scored a pair of goals to lead the third-seeded Zips
(19-1-1) to a 3-2 home victory over West Virginia in the second
round of the NCAA Tournament last weekend. It was the second
consecutive two-goal performance for Mattocks, who also found the
net twice the previous weekend against Western Michigan in the
Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game.
With a win over the Mountaineers, the Zips advanced to the Round of
16 for the third straight season under fifth-year head coach Caleb Porter. UA
will next host Indiana (10-7-2), which defeated Tulsa, 5-1, Sunday
at 4 p.m. at Lee R. Jackson Soccer Field.
