UA Baseball Slated for Third Annual Diamond Classic For Kids
May 04 | Baseball
AKRON, Ohio The Akron and Kent State baseball teams will join together for a noble cause on Tuesday, May 5 at 6 pm when the Zips and Golden Flashes meet in a non-MAC match up for the third annual Diamond Classic For Kids at Canal Park, home of Minor League Baseball's Akron Aeros.
Tickets cost $10 for adults
and $5 for kids and students (with a valid school ID) with all
proceeds going to the Akron Children's Hospital. Tickets can be
purchased through the UA ticket office by dialing
1-888-99-AKRON.
The Zips are 15-30 on the year and 9-12 in the Mid-American
Conference while No. 26 Kent State enters the contest 35-11 and
14-6 in the MAC. While Tuesday's game will not count in the
Mid-American Conference standings, it will definitely add to the
historic rivalry between the two clubs and up the ante, heading
into the weekend MAC match-up against one another as each team
looks to extend winning streaks.
The first two games of the Diamond Classic For Kids have been
extremely competitive and exciting to watch. Akron came away with a
3-1 win in the first annual Diamond Classic For Kids while Kent
State prevailed in last year's 16-15 slugfest at Canal Park. More
importantly, over 1,700 fans attended last year's affair and raised
over $10,000 for the Akron Children's Hospital which both head
coaches hope to exceed in 2009.
Tuesday's game will be featured on the Akron ISP Network (and
possibly Sports Radio 1350 AM) with Bill Morgan calling the action
while live statistics will be provided on www.GoZips.com.
