Men's Golf in 11th After Round One of Cavalier Classic

Charlottesville, Va. - The University of Akron
men's golf team sits in 11th place Saturday after carding a
13-over, 301 at the 22nd annual Cavalier Classic hosted by the
University of Virginia.
Freshman Scott Landreth (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michaels Catholic) leads the Zips in their last regular-season tournament posting a 73 (36-37) tied for 21st at the par-72, 6,875-yard Birdwood Golf Course.
Fellow freshman Tim Lew (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary), who just recently returned to the links after injury, is second for UA tied for 39th overall in the 100-player field carding a 3-over, 75 (38-37).
Ryan Mason (Bridgeport, W. Va./Bridgeport), also in his inaugural year of collegiate competition, senior David Addison (Stewarton, Scotland/Stewarton Academy) and junior Jacob Patte (Oshawa, Ontario/Eastdale Collegiate) all sit within one stroke of each other with Mason leading the way shooting a 76 (36-40) tied for 46th place. Addison follows with a 77 (39-38) and Patte rounds out the scorecard with a 78 (36-42).
The 18-team tournament is led by No. 13 South Carolina. The
Gamecocks shot 2-under 286 to hold a six-stroke advantage over the
host Cavaliers. Other participating teams include Appalachian
State, Augusta State, East Carolina, Francis Marion, George Mason,
James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Maryland, Radford, Rutgers, Seton
Hall, Towson, UNC Wilmington and Villanova.
The second and final round will be played Sunday at 8:00
a.m.
