The University of Akron Athletics
Men's Soccer Tournament Match vs. Stanford Sold Out
November 27 | Men's Soccer
Sunday's NCAA Tournament third-round match between the
Univeristy of Akron men's soccer team and Stanford is officially
sold out, the UA Athletics Department announced Friday morning.
It is the fourth time the Zips will be playing in front of a
capacity crowd this year as the soccer program has already broken
three attendance records this season. Sunday's crowd is expected to
challenge the current record of 2,700 fans, set last Sunday against
South Florida.
The Zips and Cardinal will kick off at 4 p.m. (EST) at Lee Jackson
Field.
Excitement surrounding the men's soccer program has been at an
unprecedented high in 2009. The Zips (21-0-0), who are attempting
to become the first team in 35 years to win a national championship
with a perfect record, have drawn crowds of more than 2,000 fans
six times in 11 home contests after doing so just once before in
its program history entering the year.
With 2,443 fans in attendance to watch the Zips defeat Indiana 1-0
on Sept. 18, UA topped the previous highmark of 2,319, originally
set vs. Ohio State in 2005. But that record fell less than two
weeks later when 2,473 were on hand to witness a 3-0 victory over
the Buckeyes on Sept. 30.
Fans without tickets to Sunday's game can watch a live video feed
for free on GoZips.com or listen locally on 1350 AM.
