Zips Headed South to the Florida Relays
April 03 | Track & Field
The men's and women's track and field team heads to Gainesville,
Fla. this weekend to compete with tough competition in the 64th
running of the Florida Relays.
The field is said to be the best meet going on this weekend with
many top named athletes competing and even some professional names
making the trip south. When talking about top named athletes
competing one should not forget the Akron Zips that are making the
trip down to not only compete but to take some wins in their
events.
Stevi Large (Somerset, Ohio/Sheridan HS), Cadeau
Kelley (Cleveland, Ohio/ John Marshall HS), and Auston
Papay (Sharon, Pa/ Sharon HS) have made Regional marks already
in the outdoor season and are looking to repeat those performances.
All three athletes own respective records for the Zips in the
outdoor seasons for many of the field events but hope to not only
take some wins themselves but to help guide the team to victory in
the other events as well.
The Florida Relays have been run every year since the late 1930's
ever since the Southern Relays were discontinued at Georgia Tech in
the early 30's.
Not making the trip to the Florida Relays but making his own trip
to the Texas Relays is sophomore Daniel
Kinsey (East Liverpool, Ohio/Indiana University) who will be
competing in the decathlon.
The Florida Relays begin Friday, April 4, and conclude on Saturday
the April 5. The Texas Relays that Kinsey is going to start on
April 2, 2008 and will finish on
April 4, 2008.
