Akron-NIU Game Still Scheduled To Be Played
February 12 | Men's Basketball
AKRON,
Ohio Despite a winter storm which is sweeping its
way through northeast Ohio, tonight's men's basketball game between
the University of Akron and Northern Illinois University is still
scheduled to be played, with tip-off set for 8 p.m. EST at Rhodes
Arena.
The contest will
remain as scheduled due to a number of factors. First, Northern
Illinois' basketball team has been in Akron since Friday, as the
team competed at nearby Kent State on Saturday. Second, the
Mid-American Conference office confirmed that tonight's three game
officials are all safely in town. Third, it was determined that the
two team's schedules do not present an opportunity for a make-up
contest.
The University of
Akron encourages all fans who will be attending to please allow for
extra travel time and use caution when driving. For the convenience
of those who will be attending, sidewalks, roads and parking lots
will be cleared.
Also, any fan who
attends tonight's Akron-NIU game will be able to purchase a general
admission ticket for the Feb. 23 O'Reilly ESPNU BracketBusters game
versus Virginia Commonwealth for $5 with a ticket stub from
tonight's contest. The VCU game will begin at 11 a.m. EST and be
televised on ESPN2.
Tonight's game will be telecast on FSN Ohio (Time Warner Cable channel 31, Dish Network channel 425, DIRECTV channel 637). Also, the game will be broadcast on the Akron ISP Sport Network on 1350 AM (Akron) and 1300 AM (Cleveland). Also, live stats will be available for free on GoZips.com, while a webcast is available through the ZipsZone on a subscription basis.
