Zippy Invitational: Final Preliminary Session Complete

The third and final day of the Zippy Invitational
preliminary events were completed this morning.
Junior Kendall Karchner along with freshmen Kerry
Wanstreet and Meg Finnerty will represent Akron in the 200-yard
backstroke finale this evening. Karchner finished sixth in the
event with 2:08.28, while Wanstreet and Finnerty finished 12th and
21st with 2:09.86 and 2:13.41 respectively.
Three Zips will compete in the 100-yard freestyle as junior Stephanie Zielinski led the team with a third
place finish (51.86). Fellow junior, Julia
Gregos and freshman Jessica Ickes will join Zielinski in
consolation heats this evening as they earned 21st and 22nd place
respective finishes. Gregos finished with a 54.11 mark while Ickes
ended in 54.26.
In tonight's 200-yard breaststroke finale, Akron will be
represented by junior Julie Reynolds who finished in 9th with a
2:28.88 and senior Cheri Baratto who earned a 16th place finish in
2:31.11 in this morning's preliminary session.
Three Zips will compete in this evening's 200-yard fly as junior Cathryn
Collins and Bulkowski finished third and fourth with times of
2:07.58 and 2:07.65. Junior Kylie
Bombrys finished 16th in a time of 2:12.10 and will swim in the
tonight's "B" heat.
The Zippy Invitational finals are scheduled later this afternoon at
4 pm. Events will include the men and women's 1650-yard freestyle,
200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke,
200-yard butterfly and 400-yard freestyle relays.
